Frankston Sand Sculptures

Frankston Sand Sculptures - Melbourne - Australia

If you’re looking for a fun activity in Melbourne that’s a little bit out of the ordinary, look no further than the Frankston sand sculpture exhibition. Forget your preconceived ideas of messy childhood sand castles, the pros are here to show you how it’s done!

This years exhibition runs until the end of April, so there is still plenty of time to plan your journey.

The exhibition theme for 2017 is ‘Lands of Imagination‘, artists from all over the world have come to transform Frankston waterfront into well known stories from your childhood, plus a few original designs too. Here you can find well known scenes from Alice in Wonderland or Prehistoric Valley, but these aren’t ordinary sand sculptures – they all tower about 5 meters high, all intricately detailed and most defying gravity!

The big question on everyone’s minds – what if it rains?

I was wondering the same thing and was even slightly panicked about this as (in true Melbourne style) it had just begun raining as I entered the exhibition. You need not worry, they won’t wash away! In fact they had sculptures at the ready to do any required touch ups, but over all, rain was no match for these babies.

It is not every day you get to see an exhibition like this as this one in particular only come around once a year.

I would highly recommend taking the scenic drive out of the city to check out the Frankston sand sculptures before it packs up for another year.
