10 must-do things in Melbourne this Summer

Alfa Romeo Portsea Polo - Mornington Peninsula

Hello Summer! The most amazing time of the year to live in beautiful Melbourne!

They don’t call it the World’s Most Liveable City for seven years in a row without good reason, and if I can personally recommend my favourite season to visit, it’s without a doubt the hottest season of the year.

Enjoy a day out at Portsea Polo

Alfa Romeo Portsea Polo takes place on the Mornington Peninsula and is back this Summer on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

It’s a super-fun day of fashion, food, sport, and the unique excitement of Polo, and this year’s event includes an impressive line-up of the top international polo players, popular local DJ’s, amazing food & drink, as well as the best celebrity spotting ground around. Round up your friends and we’ll see you field side on the Pen! Click here for hospitality and ticketing options.

Float a while on… Arbory Afloat

Look out past Platform 13 at Flinders Street Station and you’ll see a funky alfresco dining space that has seemingly popped up out of nowhere. Say hello to The Arbory, an outdoor eatery and bar that has breathed new life into an unremarkable stretch of the Yarra River. The 150 metre long space of timber decking that connects the Southbank footbridge with Princes Bridge, is home to a kitchen and two bars, which are housed inside a seriously cool shipping container. It is the perfect place to have a wine in the city.

Arbory Afloat is also popping up again for summer. This years ‘float’ will be bigger and better, and will officially be dubbed Melbourne’s longest bar. This is sure to be one of the chic’est pop ups of the year and their Rosé will be at the top of my vino hit list. #Roséallday

Secure tickets to an Australian Open Session

Melbourne is home to the opening Grand Slam tournament of the year; the Australian Open will take place from 15-28 January 2018.

It’s the place to be for sports lovers, festival lovers and lovers of Melbourne’s iconic cultural scene, with non-stop eats, drinks, pop-ups, and of course the tennis. If you haven’t already, buy tickets online now from their website, here.

Domaine Chandon - Yarra Valley

Visit the new Domaine Chandon

Our first impressions of the new Domaine Chandon dining and retail space? It is #interiorspo heaven! The Yarra Valley winery partnered with interior design practice Foolscap Studio to overhaul the site and the end result is truly incredible – we are in love with the peach booths in the Tasting area, and the pink (Australian sourced) marble stone is *to die*.

Having only reopened this month, Domaine Chandon is the perfect place to take your squad, treat yourself to a Sparkling tasting platter, then settle in for a long-lunch at their totally Instagrammable new space. Find out more about the new Domaine Chandon and plan your visit on their website here.

Plan a day out at Luna Park

Luna Park Melbourne is located on the beautiful foreshore of Port Phillip Bay (in St Kilda) and I have no doubt that all kids (both young and old) will fall in love with the spirit of this historic amusement park as soon as they walk through the iconic giant mouth.

One of the best things about Luna Park is that it’s free to enter, so you and the family can just browse around and take in the exciting atmosphere. It’s home to the Great Scenic Railway, the world’s longest continually operating roller coaster and it surrounds the entire park. It’s just as exhilarating now as it was when it started in 1912! Providing not only a heart-pounding adventure, but also a stunning view towards the CBD and the coastline.

So if you are in the need for speed, thrills, bumps and laughs then you need to head straight to Luna Park this Summer.

Indulge in the ultimate dessert burger

Put on your stretchy pants and get set to indulge in the ultimate fairy floss dessert burger at Long Story Short cafe. It’s the perfect naughty treat to accompany their breakfast porridge and taro latte.

The chic, modern cafe is located on Crockford Street across the road from Play Central, one of our favourite play centres in Melbourne. So grab yourself a delicious brunch at LSS before heading over the road with the kids where they’ll enjoy hours of fun (tip: it’s a must-visit on scorching hot days to escape the sun, your kids will love the dodgem cars, exploring the volcano climbing mountain and the mini city supermarket).

Red Hill Cherry Farm - Mornington peninsula

Get your pick on at Red Hill Cherry Farm

Hey cherry baby… Pick your own sweet and morello cherries at Victoria’s oldest pick your own cherry farm from mid-November to early January. Their range of cherry products include cider, beer, wine and port, and the farm is a hands on, fun inclusion to our summer must-do list.

If you are planning a trip to the farm, be sure to check out their website or facebook page before you visit.

Treat the kids to a Little Langham High Tea

If there’s one thing most kids (young and old) go gaga for, it’s a sweet treat. Melbourne has a range of High Tea options available for little tackers and our favourite for summer is The Langham‘s Little Langham high tea.

On the menu these school holidays is their Super Mario Odyssey High Tea, which is sure to spark your nostalgic imagination, and you might just collect a few gold coin cupcakes along the way (running until 31 January 2018, weekdays only). Book here.

Get along to a BBL or WBBL match

Enjoy the family friendly atmosphere of a KFC Big Bash League match these school summer holidays.

Watch the Australian (men and women professional) Twenty20 cricket league, with games at Etihad Stadium and the MCG, you can cheer on our home teams – the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades. Check out the BBL website for the fixture and to buy tickets.
